I've always lived in the Pacific Northwest with a long winter of of dark, damp and gloomy days.  So I suppose it's not surprising that I would enjoy the warm glow and pleasant aroma of scented candles to create a feeling of warmth and light.

For years I burned paraffin candles because I didn't know there was anything else available.  One spring after burning a lot of candles on our mantle my husband pointed out the black soot on our ceiling right over where the candles had been burned all winter.

I was shocked to see how dirty it was and was concerned that we'd been breathing in all of that soot, too!

It was then that I began my quest to find a better candle or severely limit my use of candles.  I started reading about candles and candle waxes and learned that paraffin is a petroleum based product - I had never really thought about where paraffin came from!

I also learned that there were alternative waxes made with soy and other vegetable waxes.  I liked the idea that vegetable wax is a renewable resource and doesn't release toxic fumes or black soot.

I liked them so well that in 1995 I decided to become a distributor to buy my favorite candle at half price!
